Finally, a weight loss solution that works!

2012
05.11

As an average female in my 40s, I found it more and more difficult to lose weight. And easier to put it on. Determined to beat the challenge, I increased my workout times and frequency with no significant benefit. I tried to limit portions, still didn’t make a difference. I tried Atkins and a local weight loss center and found some short-term success. I was looking for the long-term lifestyle solution. I was just plain sick of it!

I found the answer and have been telling everyone about it like an evangelist preaching the Good News. A fully certified nutritionist named Isabel Rios teamed up with an excersise specialist in their recently completed study on how to lose fat. They have compiled their years of research into a tell-all program called the Diet Solution.

The Diet Solution works. And here’s why:

  • It’s a comprehensive solution – integrating your mind, natural metabolism, goals, lifestyle and quality information.
  • The on-line format means you can skip the need to go somewhere to check in, weigh in and purchase expensive (unhealthy) food, and take matters into your own hands.
  • It is not a crash diet weightloss solution that leaves you exhausted, hungrey, and heavier than you have ever been.
  • It serves as a central source of information – combining latest science on metabolism, health and food to offer the healthiest, and frankly, easier, solution.
  • Isabel does a great job explaining why and how here methods work on a scientific level.
  • It’s easier than anything else I’ve tried. With good information at hand, I buy quality foods, make healthy recipes, plan ahead, know my body and enjoy my food – and my weight loss. I don’t deprive myself, I am simply more careful in grocery shopping and preparation. I watch my portion sizes.

You’ll learn things you possibly haven’t hard before. For me, I learned:

  • How much water to drink for my size.
  • Artificial sweetners and high fructose corn syrup are terrible for your liver and cause you to gain fat
  • Why soy is bad for you.
  • Breads are okay – I just need to know how to choose. (Whole wheat breads can cause fat while grain breads are great, healthy fat burning foods))
  • Great new recipes and daily meal plans that make planning easier.
  • What foods that are considered healthy really are making me put on more fat
  • There are certian good fats that you need to eat and can actually help you burn fat.

I highly recommend the Diet Solution. It’s the only Solution you’ll need. As in, forever. This is it. This is the answer. You owe it to yourself. Go for it!

Common Weight Loss Mistakes

2012
04.29

Have you ever bought into the latest “crash diet” or fad while trying to lose weight? Well if you have, you are sure to know that in the long run, they don’t work. The problem with most of these diets is that they end up depriving you of what your body truly needs. They fail to recognize your body’s need for balance, and as a result, you can feel exhausted and hungry. For example, many of the diet programs preach that fat is the root of a evil, but this is simply not true. In reality, your body needs healthy real fats like omega 3, which is commonly found in fish and nuts. One of the biggest problems you can face when seeking to lose weight is your mindset. If you go in believing that dieting is the only way to lose weight, you are already at odds. What you must first must understand is that losing weight and keeping it off can only be obtained through a lifestyle change. Yes, diets can serve as a great way to kick-start your change, but they must not be seen as the end all be all. Your must set your focus from the long term.

In my experience with weight-loss, I have come to realize there are a lot of things that can really make your life much more difficult when you are trying to lose weight. Over the last couple days I have compiled some of them below. They are as follows in no particular order:

1. Eating “Healthy” Food

Today’s “health foods” are not necessarily healthy. Advertisers will say just about anything they can to make you buy it whether it is true or not. Have you ever eaten a supposedly “healthy” granola bar? Well I invite you to look on the back, and observe the long list of ingredients, including high fructose corn syrup (if you ever see this ingredient don’t eat it – it is artificial and causes you to gain weight), corn syrup, and sugar.

Other example is soy. Advertisers will tell you that soy is one of the healthy foods around, but this is simply not true. This is because most of the processed soy products on the market contain toxins which keep you liver incredibly busy trying to filter them out of your body. Unfortunately your liver is also the organ that burns body fat, but the toxins in soy, as well as the majority of processed foods, keep your liver to busy dealing with the toxins that they have no time to burn your unwanted body fat.

So, the bottom line is never believe the advertising claims, but instead, look at the back of the box at the ingredients list. As a general rule of thumb, if the number of ingredients is over 5 items, don’t by it!

2. Skipping meals

Skipping meals can cause your metabolism to drop dramatically. What you should really do is eat 5 small meals a day, rather than two, face-stuffing ginormous meals. This turns your metabolism into a fat burning machine, and helps you stay full longer.

3. Failing to Drink Enough Water

Have you ever been so hungry that no matter how much you ate you were still hungry? This is most-likely due to dehydration. Often times one may mistake de-hydration for hunger, and then try to quench it with a huge eating binge. This is why staying hydrated is key to weight loss. It will keep your hunger at bay, while simultaneously energizing your body and help you from feeling deprived.

4. Running from all Fats

Artificial fats such as hydrogenated oils are definitely worth running from, but your body does need good fats. As I said earlier, there are actually good fats such as Omega 3 that your body actually needs. You can find Omega 3 in foods such as salmon, almonds, and chia seeds. Omega three actually helps your body burn fat, while providing you with high quality energy.

5. Diet Mentality

One of the biggest things, if not the biggest is the short-term diet mentality. Most people feel that the diet is there only way to lose weight, and after they do, they can go back to their old eating habits. This is simply not the case. True lasting weight loss takes more than just month long diet, it takes a lifestyle change. It is incrediably important to go into your weight-loss process understanding this. Sure diets can serve as a great kick start to your whole weight loss process, but it is not the end all be all. Ever wonder why so many people end up gaining back every single pound they lost or even more? It is all about mindset.

Hope this helps,

How to Resist Cravings

2012
04.15

The craving for food stems from your most basic biological desire to survive. Hungry served as a useful biological tool that pushed man to hunt and to gather, to farm and to harvest. But in today’s day and age, things are much different. Rather than having to go hunt, gather, or farm to get our food (which served as a very, very good work out), we simply open up the pantry, drive to the grocery store, or go out to eat. On top of that our food in the last decade has dramatically changed, in that, today our food is loaded with artifical preservatives and pesticides that our body is not use to having, and ends up adding fat. The craving for sweets is a perfect example of how our helpful evolutionary craving has turned into something it was never intended to do. The craving for sweets was actually not meant to crave candy bars, but rather fruit. Unfortunately, our junk food cravings and in some cases addictions have gotten out of hand. So what can we do about it? How can we overcome these cravings?

Well the first thing you need to do is:

1. Identify your craving.

I mean literally spend a day or two thinking about and identifying your major junk food cravings. You then must write these down.Writing them down cements them in your mind and helps you to focus on them. Then next to each food item write down the situation that usually arouses the craving in you. For example, if every time you go to the movies you have candy bars – write down “at the movies.” Then once you have come up with a list of your top cravings, write down every reason you can think of, of why you don’t want to eat it. Write down how you feel afterwards -  how disgusted and disappointed you are for having given into your craving. Then below that, write down how good you feel if you resist your craving and choose something healthier.

2. Make a decision to resist your cravings.

This is the all important step. It is more than just a decision -  it is a resolution. Tell your self exactly what you have decided and why. Then write it down and post it in a frequently visited spot: bathroom, hallway, car, etc.

3. Remove the temptation.

Throw it away! Get a big plastic garbage bag and empty your pantry, car, office, etc. of your temptation. For example if you get a terrible craving for chips and you have a bag of chips in your pantry, well then throw it away. You made the decision, now it is time to act on it.

4. Substitute.

For example, if you have a killer temptation to for something sweet, then you should find a healthy substitute, ie: a sweet fruit. If you just look you will find tons of healthy substitutes that you enjoy eating. If you do this step correctly and find a great tasting healthy substitute, your transition away from that food will be extremely easy. (Be careful though to make sure that it is actually a healthy food. Food companies can be extremely deceptive so always double and triple check. As a golden rule, the less ingredients the better.)

5. Be prepared.

This means that you should always have a game plan before you enter a situation. If you are going out to eat, figure out what you will eat and how will resist your temptation. Then follow trough. Always remind yourself of why you don’t want to eat the food, and how good you feel when you don’t.

6. Never give up.

I hope this goes with out saying, but no matter what happens, no matter how many times you give in, never give up. Stick with your decision and always keep on trying.

It will definitely be very hard at times, but if you follow through, prepare your self, find a substitute, and never give up – you will succeed.

Hope this helps,

Dangers of Being Overweight

2012
03.26

Hello all!

I felt it was important, and motivational to first know the danger that you are in when you are overweight. For me this is a huge motivator in staying healthy and resisting temptations to indulge myself. But don’t get me wrong; I am not saying all overweight people will be diagnosed with these disorder, nor am I condemning you for being over weight. I completely understand the
situation you are in and am trying to help. But that being said, being over weight does carry some serious risks.

Believe it or not, being over weight can be a life or death situation. That is because your chances of developing terrible and devastating disorders goes up dramatically. Here is a shortlist of some of the most common:

- Heart Disease:

This is the number one cause of death in men and your chances of having a hear-attack increase dramatically as you gain more weight! This is because having more fat in your body results in having more “bad cholesterol” which unfortunately can result in Coronary Heart Disease.

- High Blood Pressure:

Second to Coronary Heart Disease, being overweight also causes high blood pressure which can lead to heart attacks because it makes your heart work a lot harder than normal.

- Diabetes:

Being overweight is directly related to type two diabetes. This is because the large amount of fat in your body restricts the amount of insulin that your body can produce. People diagnosed with diabetes then have to be constantly monitoring there diet, taking daily blood tests, and sometimes painful injections.

- Sleep Apnea:

Sleep apnea is a terrible disorder to have! I know a couple people who have it and they lose countless hours of sleep and are forced to resort to putting a loud machine with a mask over their faces.

- Cancer:

The increased hormones in overweight people have been associated with causing a greater of risk of having cancer. 15% of all cancer deaths can be traced back to being overweight.

And these are just some of the most common ones! The list goes on:

    – Gallstones

    – Low Testosterone

    – Prostate Cancer

    – Decreased Fertility

    – Dementia

    – Stroke

    – Leptin

    – Inflammation

    – Colon Cancer

    – Incontinence

So how is this useful?

  1. It can be a HUGE MOTIVATOR! The next time your tempted just to sit down with that bag of potato chips and watch some TV, think of this list and ask yourself – “Is it really worth it?”
  2. If you actually are experiencing some symptoms of any of these disorders you should talk to your doctor right away.
  3. To be informed. Before I set a goal, I always to my research. You need to know the ins and outs of every part of your goal. You need to know what could happen if you fail, and what you will feel like when you succeed.

Best of Luck!

6 Great Fat Burning Foods

2012
03.17

I am sure you know that there are certain foods that will increase your unwanted fat, but did you know that there are also fat burning foods? Well believe it or not there are.

Here is a list of fat burning foods I have compiled over the last couple days:

  1.  Salmon: Salmon is probably one of the best foods you can eat because it gives both your immune system and your metabolism a huge boost. This is due to the fact that it is absolutely loaded with protein, Omega 3, and fatty acids which play a major role in preventing heart disease. An increased metabolism will also help burn up fat at a much quicker rate.
  2. Oatmeal: Oatmeal is a great breakfast day-starter. It is loaded with fiber and will stay in your stomach for hours, keeping you full through the morning. (Avoid packaged oatmeal with sugar and sweetners inside)
  3. Eggs: Eggs are loaded with B-12, an ingredient needed to help your body metabolize fat. This is another good way to start your day, or a hardboiled egg can serve as a great afternoon snack.
  4. Dairy: Dairy contains a very important component to weight-loss and that is calcium. Calcium not only helps your body burn it, but it prevents it from even forming! (Minimize butter and cheese, but eat yogurt and drink skim milk).
  5. Apples: Apples have fantastic fat burning proprites and they can be a great on-the-go afternoon snack!
  6. Broccoli: Broccoli is not only a great cholesterol – lowering food, but it also gives your immune system a huge boost preventing disease and other illnesses. You can have broccoli anytime of the day, either as a snack or a side to lunch or dinner.

Best of Luck,

Marykate

Chia for Runners

2012
03.01

Hello to all the runners out there. If you have not heard of Chia Seeds, they are worth trying out. Their back story is that they were used by the ancient aztecs in huge week long runs from the Tenochtitlan to the coast. All the runners would bring with them was a bag of Chia seeds and they would go. The incredible thing about Chia seeds is that they absorb ten times their mass of water. So if you mix them with water, which I highly recommend, they will turn into a gel type mixture, almost having the appearance of frog eggs. I know right now you are probably grossed out, but they are actually tasteless. So if you mix them in water, form a gel and then add some delicious fruit juice to it, it can really be transformed into a wonderful drink.

But back to the health benefits. First off all, because of their incredible absorbing properties, they will retain water in your system keeping you much more hydrated for a longer period of time. This can be extremely useful for long distance runners and is known to dramatically improve their performance. Chia seeds are also easily digestible and help to regulate your digestive system. This is due to the fact that they are loaded with fiber, making them great for people with stomach disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and other gastrointestinal issues. On top of that Chia Seeds contain a lot of Omega Three, which is great for overall health, and especially that of the brain. Basically Chia seeds are everything flax seeds are and better. This is because they don’t need to be ground up in order to get all of the wonderful nutrients and such inside.

Because of the fact that eating Chia Seeds is known to fill you up, it has also been used as a weight-loss supplement, helping curb ones appetite and feel more filled up.

I personal drink about a 1-2 water bottles of the Chia gel with some fruit juice every day. This is sort of on the extreme end, but I definitely can attest to the wonderful benefits of Chia Seeds. I feel like I have alot more energy, and can run a lot longer and farther than I ever use to be able to.

Hope this Helps,
